Utah Westerners and LinkedIn

Why do I attend the Utah Westerners? It keeps me “briefed” regarding some of the most recent research and writing in Western history. I hear and engage with evidence and arguments that are at times familiar and at other times new and startling. Discussions before and after a presentation (including during the Q & A sessions), are often as interesting as the presentations. Enjoying a great meal in the historical surroundings of the Alta Club (est. 1883) doesn’t hurt either.
Why else am I a Westerner? Membership avails me the opportunity to visit monthly with dear friends, other history enthusiasts and respected figures in Western history. It also places me in contact with new friends I want to associate with. The newly created Westerner’s LinkedIn page extends this association to the web. It allows Westerners to read about other Westerners (and other people beyond), concerning professional background, schooling, employment, recent projects, professional interests and finally, circles of friends (linked on LinkedIn). The service also makes friends aware of new website and blog entries.
As any Westerner can tell you, relationships matter. No surprise, when you find a friend on LinkedIn, you often find in their circle of friends, friends in common. LinkedIn also allows introductions to people you want to know, whom you might not otherwise meet outside the web.
If you join LinkedIn, and I hope you do, please also join the Utah Westerners Group in the “Groups Section.” Only Utah Westerners (active, correspondent and emeritus) may join, and have the International Westerner logo, located on their profile.
